Tim and Eddy behind York bar 3 Feb 2009
There's more Sheffield beers in York!
No we're afraid this is not Eddy behind the bar at The Gardeners Rest!!

Eddy Munelly, co-director, was invited along with the rest of the Sheffield Brewery team to run a Meet the Brewer night at the York in Broomhill. Assisted by his partner, the Quiz Mistress, also co-owner of the Gardeners Rest, Pat Wilson (see featured on our Your Local page), the York's locals and friends were also entertained with a special Sheffield themed quiz. You can see the quiz winners below. First prize was a gallon of beer donated by the Wig and Pan manager, Andy, one of the brewery's core customers. A close second won the infamous Sheffield Brewery T-shirt. Tim Stillman, co-director and head brewer, also featured behind the bar (funny that!) educated customers of the York in the finer arts of crafting beautiful Sheffield Brewery real ale.

Sheffield Brewery was invited by the York's owner, Jason aka "Golden Fleece" to produce a launch beer in November and this was named "The York Ghost" and sold out really well. Since then the brewery's beers have been featured regularly.

Dawn, manager of the York (also featured in the photo), said "the Sheffield Brewery beers have been very popular and have been received very well by customers particularly the core range including 'Five Rivers'".

Quiz winners at the York On this wintry night the beer was flowing so well that Seven Hills ran dry and the Sheffield Stout was proving to be another favourite. Peter Rawlinson, co-director of the brewery said, "this is a great pub and the staff are really friendly and enthusiastic about providing real ales from locally sourced breweries. We're delighted some of our core range such as Five Rivers and Seven Hills have gone down so well."

Eddy said "we've had a great night and we'll always support local initiatives like this to promote "real ale". The York has a great range of rotating beers and a lunchtime food menu which again focuses on locally sourced produce. We'll be promoting the York as another venue that our growing following will want to visit."

Sheffield Brewery hosts a band-a-roke night 3 Dec 2008
Sheffield Brewery hosts a "band-a-roke" night with EKC's Karate group
Steve of Elite Karate booked the Sheffield Brewery premises for a private party to celebrate another successful year with members of the Elite club. The home made meat and potato pie (and "Hendersons") from the Crusty Cob went down a treat and there were some fantastic beers on tap as part of the "do". Steve says "I can't think of a better and more unusual place to have a party or celebrate an occasion than Sheffield Brewery's great new bar and tour facilities".

Simon Butler, amateur photographer, also came along and snapped the frivolities as can be seen by clicking on the link.

Book a private party at the brewery!
You can now book our bar for brewery tours, free beer and a cracking home made meat'n' potato and pea supper. Just click on Brewery bar for more details. We've had several groups attend either for birthday parties, corporate events or even a dating agency night! The bar was actually recycled from the University's Ranmoor Halls of Residence and it fits like a glove. Eddy Munelly, director says, "it was such a stroke of luck. We were tipped off by a good friend (we still owe him a beer or two, Mike!) who told us about the bar being scrapped. We shot straight up there and dismantled the whole thing and rebuilt it in the brewery. It's amazing how many folk now recognize it and demand is growing for a nostalgic night of revelry for all those graduates who leant against it in years gone by!!

Paradise Pale - a very popular choice!15 Oct 2008
Paradise Pale - a very popular choice!
The Sheffield Brewery had one of its finest moments at the Sheffield Beer Festival when it was selected as the best of the best bitter category when compared to all other Sheffield brewery entries. The pale ale brewed especially for and available at the Wig & Pen on Campo Lane is a very popular light ale. In its class it came second out of 21 national regional ales. Tim, head brewer, said "after last years trauma with the flood and the hard work we've put into rebuilding the brewery it's very satisfying to have another one of our beers selected"

Go Wild for Mild in St Petersburgh 21 Jul 2008
Go Wild for Mild in St Petersburgh:
The Sheffield Brewery Company helped turn Alex's dream of brewing a beer into a reality. The idea was to feature the full brewing process from the hops to the pump in a film for his Fine Art Degree show. Alex is seen puuling the first pint at the launch at the award winning Kelham Island Tavern and says "we came up with the idea last summer in the beautiful city of St Petersburgh and I never thought we'd eventually get to do this. The guys at The Sheffield Brewery Company have been really helpful and special thanks to Eddy and Tim who have helped steer me throughout the process" Alex has agreed to provide his own editorial to explain how he came up with the name for the beer and we'll also feature some of his film work - so watch this space!!

Look out for a new beer to be launched at the grand opening of the Wig & Pen on Campo Lane in July. The Sheffield Brewery Company was approached to brew a special beer for the exciting new bar and restaurant development. Head brewer, Tim Stillman, says: "The new beer name is still under wraps until nearer the launch date but we are very excited and delighted that one of ourquality real ales has been selected as the core range." 2 June 2008 Help from University of Sheffield
The University of Sheffield's English department recently helped The Sheffield Brewery by completing an in-depth marketing project. No surprise that the students jumped at the chance to get "hands on" experience of carrying out some commercial market research in this sector. The results will be published shortly on www.sheffieldbrewery.com and the brewery's range of beer names and cask ales are proven to be very popular amongst residents and tourists visiting the city. One student reported The Sheffield Brewery Company beers and iconic beer names have quickly become established as representative of this fabulous city's heritage and geography making the beers popular choices when made available by landlords.

30 May 2008 fine artist Alex Hislop
The brewery was recently commissioned by fine artist Alex Hislop as part of his final degree course at Hallam University to brew a special mild which he named "Art Jock". Alex's degree show culminated on the closing weekend of the Arts Campus at Psalter Lane and attracted over 1000 visitors who all enjoyed the new delicious mild. Alex said: "The experience of working with The Sheffield Brewery team was brilliant and I've learnt a great deal about designing and producing a product in a very competitive market".

25 May 2008 St Luke's Hospice
The brewery has recently helped raise funds for St Luke's Hospice through sales of bottles and casks of the specially commissioned real ale for Monaghans (real estate project specialists) retailing at various outlets as "1971". The success of the corporate venture through the Master Cutler Challenge has helped raise the profile of The Sheffield Brewery and Monaghans and the brewery welcomes any enquiries from other corporates and charities interested in similar ventures.

20 May 2008 The Sheffield Brewery continues to expand

The event is open to the public and kicks off from 8pm on Thursday 24th April.

04 Jul 2007 - As you will have no doubt seen in the press Sheffield was badly hit by the June storms and flooding caused substantial damage along the River Don flood plain. Although the brewery complex was hit by the floodwater the damage was not too extensive and we have managed to continue to supply beer although we are not quite back into full production. We have received hundreds of "good luck" messages and we'd like to thank all of our customers for their concerns. The best way of course to ensure our brewery bounces back from the damage sooner is to keep ordering our beers.
Sponsor the Sheffield Beer FestivalThe Sheffield Brewery Company Limited sponsored the Sheffield Beer Festival held at the end of September.
Tim and PeteThis was Saturday night by which time we had sold out of virtually all of our beers, says Tim Stillman, head brewer. The event t-shirts sported the iconic Sheffield Brewery logo combined with the Sheffield Beer Festival 33rd Year logo and looked great.
